Based on two investigations of documentary archives that contribute to understanding the history of architecture, design and art in Ecuador, this paper analyzes the process that history has undergone and its relationship with these disciplines. Architects, designers, and artists take on the challenge of becoming historians of our fields of expertise, given that in Latin American countries there are no historians interested in the subject. We provide an account of ways in which history is made searching where and how to think about design and its history in Ecuador.
