Abstract
This series is made of fragments from a larger work called Migration in which I researched the lives of 5 migrant women who lived in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa between 2014 and 2015. We all had 29 years and came to Stellenbosch under different circumstances. Our frequent encounters partially revealed stories of their lives through exchanges and interviews. At the site of each of our meetings I made portraits, considering areas where they wanted to be photographed as well as their life stories, these led me to a place that I photographed, as well. The outcome is a photographic story about collective space in a region such as Stellenbosch, Cape Town, like an intimate space in their lives. The stories result of the photographic essay can be read randomly, giving this work a double sense that deepens it´s narrative; paragraphs of different life stories are intertwined with different images achieving a big single story.
Key words: Sudáfrica, migration, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, spaces, journeys.
