This text is a reflection on Paula Proaño Mesías' most recent solo exhibition, Affectus (2023). The project was presented in January 2023 at Centro Cultural Benjamín Carrión Bellavista in Quito, Ecuador, as a response to the analysis of various technological artifacts acknowledging their cultural and political dimensions. The work elaborates on the relationships established between human and non-human bodies, questioning how this dichotomy has repercussions on the ways of inhabiting and structuring the world. The pieces delve into transhumanist logic and question the impact of technological evolution on inter-species relationships throughout history.
