Abstract

Current government´s State policy, since 2013, is leaning towards the so-called, productive matrix change which, in different ways, seeks broadening of domestic production to overcome historical dependence on primary commodities, building development with a higher technological level. Within that political ideology the fields of art and culture, are placed in the development intended for national culture industry. This article discusses coherence, relevance, and the prospects of the development of cultural industries, and the consequences of understanding art and culture as marketable products and services. This article analyzes Ministerio de Cultura’s data about artistic field in Ecuador in 2010 to reach its real position.
