Abstract

This article analyzes my artwork between 2006 and 2019, emphasizing the description of my creative process and its results. Additionally, I research methodologies and strategies used in my artistic production. My interests revolve around the relation between the public and the private, sexuality, feminism, empowerment, and the right to sexual pleasure. Among the theoretical references of my artwork are: Camille Paglia, Virgine Despen-tes, Beatriz Preciado and Itziar Ziga.

Author Biography

María Gabriela Cherrez Vela, independiente

Gabriela Chérrez (Guayaquil1981) Artista. Estudió en el Instituto Superior Tecnológico de Artes del Ecuador (ITAE). Es Licenciada en Artes Visuales con mención en Pintura. Estudió un Máster en Creación Artística Contemporánea en la Universidad de Barcelona. Ha trabajado en gestión cultural y mediación artística. Trabajó como docente en la Universidad de las Artes del Ecuador. Ha expuesto en varias galerías del país. Obtuvo el primer lugar en el Salón de Julio en el 2007. En el 2016 ganó el premio Brasil del Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Quito. En el 2017 realizó la individual “Cherry me dice cosas que no quiero saber” por los 10 años del premio del Salón de julio. En el 2018 participó en la XIV Bienal de Cuenca “Estructuras vivientes. El arte como experiencia plural¨.
