In a modern key! Ricardo Bohórquez and the Banco de Descuento building
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ricardo Bohórquez states that modern architecture, as well as vernacular architecture and photography, instruct us to think about the creative project from a local perspective. Dowtown Guayaquil is a perfect place to experience the relationship between architecture, landscape and human beings, and the relationship between modernity, the river and business. In this photographic project Bohórquez focuses on the Banco de Descuento de Guayaquil architecture, designed by the Czech architect Karl Kohn (Prague 1894 – Quito 1979). This is building designed and built between 1952 and 1954. Bohórquez's focuses on the building’s sinuous shapes and the organicity of its volumes, lights and shadows. He tries to record its materials in their textures and geometries, settling into a photograph that abstracts forms and inspires contemplation.
